Adriana Contreras, Ph.D.
Adriana Contreras is Executive Director of the San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP), a non-profit committed to creating college opportunities, access and success for our community.
Contreras began her career at Austin Community College where, as a specialist in the Outreach Office, she developed a passion for higher education and for helping students with the college access process. Now with over 30 years of administrative experience, she has held leadership positions with the Alamo Colleges, Austin Community College, and the Austin Independent School District.
Prior to joining SAEP, Contreras held the position of Deputy to the Chancellor at the Alamo Colleges where, as part of the executive team, she chaired a committee to develop an employee leadership program for its 6,000 faculty and staff and created a Student of the Month Program, still in existence today. Contreras has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Northwest Vista College, San Antonio College, and UTSA.
Contreras holds an Associate of Arts degree from Austin Community College and a Bachelor’s in Government, a Master’s of Education in Student Personnel Services, and a doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
Chief Financial Officer
Michelle Reyes joined the San Antonio Education Partnership in June 2011 as the Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to joining the San Antonio Education Partnership, she served as the Chief Financial Officer for a local United Way agency serving at-risk youth. She has worked in the non-profit industry for over 20 years and is dedicated to serving the mission of equipping students for college
A native of Abilene, Texas, Michelle is a graduate of Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi and relocated to San Antonio in 2005. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering with the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, American Diabetes Association and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
She is the proud parent of a son who is currently serving in the United States Army, as well as having a wonderful daughter-in-law and the most precious bundle of joy, her granddaughter Calla Jane Reyes!
Communications and Development Officer
Emilio Arriola joined the San Antonio Education Partnership in September 2016 as the Communications and Development Officer. Emilio previously served as the Development Manager at the Texas Diaper Bank where he assisted in the expansion of both the programs and the organizational budget. The most enjoyable part of his role at SAEP is “knowing that our services really impact the lives of not only students but their families.” Originally, from Belton, TX, Emilio holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from UTSA and a Master of Science in Nonprofit Management from Our Lady of the Lake University. When you meet Emilio, please ask him about the time he wrestled a bear.
Program Manager, cafecollege
Rebeca Gonzalez oversees the day-to-day operations at cafécollege. She has spent the last 13 years dedicated to promoting college access, readiness, and success. A native of the Rio Grande Valley, Ms. Gonzalez received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Yale University in 2005 and completed her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Texas at Houston School of Public Health in 2010. She enjoys spending time with friends, CrossFit, running, and cycling, and spoiling her nephews and niece in her spare time.
Program Manager, High School Services
Rebecca joined the San Antonio Education Partnership as an advisor with cafécollege in May 2014 and in September 2016, she began her role as the Program Manager for the Road to Success, high school services program, with SAEP.
Rebecca is a double alum of Texas State University receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in May 2011 and a Master of Education in Student Affairs in Higher Education in May 2014. Eat’em Up Cats!
Rebecca is an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and outdoors person. She enjoys fishing, camping, and playing golf and softball. She loves spending time with her nephews and is a proud Marine Aunt and Great Aunt! Her pride and joy is her nine-year-old Chiweenie, “Chespe.”
Program Director, Upgrade
Micaela Ríos joined the Education Partnership in March 2015 as a College Access and Success Advisor for cafécollege.
She holds a Master of Science Degree in School Counseling from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with minors in Sociology and Spanish from Santa Clara University.
She was born and raised in Gonzales, California, a small agricultural town on the central coast of California. Prior to working at cafécollege, Ms. Rios worked at a mental health nonprofit organization, Alum Rock Counseling Center, as a Behavioral Specialist with elementary and middle school youth in East San Jose. Before this job, Ms. Rios had worked in the K-12 setting for 6 years through various work roles, such as a paraprofessional in Special Education, summer school teacher, substitute teacher, counseling intern, and tutor.
Education has played a major role in creating an opportunity for Ms. Rios’ family and it is because of that she is passionate about the field of education and social justice. Ms. Rios enjoys guiding families through the college application process, as well as dispelling myths for first-generation students. She feels thankful to be a part of San Antonio Education Partnership.
Sr. Data Analyst
Katherine Muniz is the Senior Data Analyst for the San Antonio Education Partnership and has been with the organization since 2011.
She is the point of contact for the cafécollege scholarship and ensures that every eligible student has an opportunity to activate their scholarship. Ms. Muniz, a native of San Antonio, graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and is a recipient of the SAEP scholarship.
She received her Associate’s in Graphic Design from San Antonio College. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree.
In her spare time, she is an avid photographer and Instagrammer. She also serves as a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and animator for the Musketeers Junior Youth Group. Ms. Muniz is committed to our students and their success.
Operations and Contract Specialist
Administrative Support/Board Liaison
Monika Balboa is the Administrative Support/Board Liaison for San Antonio Education Partnership.
Ms. Balboa is a native of the Rio Grande Valley having moved to San Antonio a year and a half ago.
In this position, Monika provides miscellaneous support to the SAEP Executive Director, CFO and Program Managers. She serves as the primary contact for external offices and visitors to the organization and provides information and assistance to the public, resolving issues within the scope of information and authority and referring to other entities as necessary. She also assists on special projects as needed such as Event Management for internal and external functions, including process improvements, strategic initiatives, attending Board and Committee meetings and other administrative projects.
In her free time, she enjoys exploring San Antonio and spending time with her husband and children. She is a proud parent of a daughter who is a Science Teacher and pursuing her Master’s Degree and a son serving in the military as a United States Marine.
