Communities in School

Rey Saldaña was born and raised on the South Side of San Antonio and is the product of Title I Texas public schools. He is currently the President and CEO of Communities in Schools, the national organization that ensures all students are empowered to stay in school and on a path to a brighter future. He has also successfully served four terms on the San Antonio City Council where he was first elected at the age of 24, becoming the youngest council person in that the city’s history.

Marisa Pérez-Díaz

Marisa Pérez-Díaz is a product of the Texas public school system, she is a passionate advocate for equitable education for all students. She has been a key advocate in creating balanced and inclusive policies aimed at increasing and expanding student outcomes. She is the youngest Latina, nationally, to have ever been elected to serve on a State Board of Education and is now serving her third term. Currently, she is the Director of Strategic Partnerships at Edgewood ISD.
